HAWKS WITH HEART

Help our students learn the lifelong importance of giving back to their community by completing a service project to benefit a local charity during the Winter Parties! 

 

STEPS

  1. Decide as a grade level what service project in which to participate (see ideas below or pick an organization that speaks to you). 
    1. It should be an activity vs. a collection of items. 
    2. Ideally, each year the students will participate in a different project.
  2. Check with the recipient organization to make sure they can utilize the project.
  3. Purchase any necessary materials (using donations or your PTCO budget).
  4. Have the students complete the project during the winter party.
  5. Deliver said project to the organization.
  6. Email your project & organization to Andersen.robin6510@gmail.com to be tracked.

 

IDEAS FOR SERVICE PROJECTS

 

  • Cupcake socks for the Women’s Bean Project or an assisted living facility
  • Bookmarks and used book donations for Reading Partners Colorado, the Sacred Heart House of Denver, or Children’s Hospital
  • No-sew dog toys for the Humane Society of the South Platte Valley
  • Tie fleece scarves for the Family Tree or an assisted living facility
  • Tie fleece blankets for Project Linus, a NICU, the Gathering Place, or an assisted living facility
  • Parents’ care kits and developmental hearts with poems for a NICU
  • Festive decorations (paper flowers, door hangers, valentines, placemats) for Children’s Hospital, Meals on Wheels, or an assisted living facility
  • Napkin necklace holders for an assisted living facility
  • Portioned bags of beans and/or rice for Metro Caring or Jewish Family Service
  • Breakfast bags, welcome kits, or sibling kits for Ronald McDonald House
  • Paracord bracelets and wish list items for Operation Gratitude
  • Pen pal cards for a class in another school or an assisted living facility
  • Thank-you notes for local firefighters, police officers, or soldiers (Operation Gratitude, A Million Thanks)
  • Mason jars of dry soup ingredients for Denver Urban Matters or an assisted living facility
  • Mason jars of hot chocolate ingredients for the African Community Center, Meals on Wheels, or South Metro Fire Rescue
